 |
| What do I have to do to qualify for
my own store?
| |
| It's really quite simple. You must:
have the desire to succeed as the owner of
your own business
be willing to learn and follow our proven
system of doing business
like to meet and work with people
have the financial resources to make the
required investment | |
 |
| How do I know that Grand Rental
Station or Taylor Rental is for me?
| |
| You can't know in advance. However, an experienced
rental consultant is available to discuss this opportunity
with you. The rental consultant will give you a
down-to-earth assessment of your market and your
personal fit to the business. You can also talk with
other Grand Rental Station and Taylor Rental store
owners to learn what owning a rental operation
has meant to them. We encourage you to take this
step.

 |
| If there's an existing rental outlet
operating within two miles of my proposed
location, should I go ahead anyway?
| |
| Many factors must be considered before responding to this type of situation. We will assist you to evaluate the market size, research the success of the existing rental operation, and determine a growth trend for the community in which you wish to open before a decision can be made. You can feel confident that our prime concern will center on your long-range success potential. | |
 |
| To start my rental business, what size building and property/location would be required? | |
| For purposes of incorporating the three major elements of the business comprising of display, storage, and repair, the minimum size building should be 5,000 square feet. If you start with this size building, provisions for future building expansion should be anticipated. An outside storage area should also be made available if permitted in your community. | |
 |
| When is the best time to open a store? | |
| Let's look at this realistically. A northern state location getting underway in mid-winter will be fully operational by spring time, taking into account the 60-90 day "start-up" period. This will result in spring business up to 100% greater than trying to open and get instantly operation during the spring season. Once you've completed a 12-month cycle, it really isn't important in which you opened. Remember, you're in business for the long run, not just a year. You should join True Value at least five months prior to your intended opening date to permit adequate time to plan your project. | |
 |
| How much staffing would I need to get underway? | |
| Most established rental businesses were initially staffed by the owner and one or two assistants, depending on the size of the operation. The manager's strengths should be in the areas of general management, sales and promotion, and supervisory, coupled with a pleasant customer-oriented personality. On start-up equipment repairs and maintenance can be handled by a part-time mechanic. Equipment maintenance and repair is extremely important, but, in reality, it is only a support element of a well-managed operation. | |
